Xiaomi Launches Mijia Brand in India, Hinting at Bigger Smart Home Plans

Mijia

Xiaomi India has officially introduced Mijia by Xiaomi in the country. The announcement comes as the company celebrates 12 years in India and marks the beginning of a bigger push into the smart home and lifestyle segment.

For most Indian consumers, Xiaomi is still a smartphone brand. Over the years, it has expanded into smart TVs, tablets, wearables, security cameras, air purifiers, and other AIoT products. But with Mijia now entering India, Xiaomi seems ready to take its smart home business much more seriously.

Mijia is Xiaomi’s global smart home brand and already has a huge product lineup in China. It sells everything from robot vacuum cleaners and kitchen appliances to refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and smart lighting products. While Xiaomi has not announced which products are coming to India first, the launch of the brand suggests that its portfolio is about to grow.

The company says its existing home and lifestyle products will gradually move under the Mijia branding. Products like air purifiers are expected to be among the first. Xiaomi also confirmed that it plans to enter the large home appliance category under the Mijia name.

This move also fits into Xiaomi’s global Human × Car × Home strategy. The idea is to connect smartphones, wearables, home appliances, and even electric vehicles into one ecosystem through HyperOS. While Xiaomi’s EV business is currently limited to China, India could soon see a much stronger “Home” part of that ecosystem.

The timing also makes sense. The smart home market in India is growing steadily, and more buyers are looking for connected devices that work together. Xiaomi already has a large smartphone user base in the country, and that gives the company an advantage if it can offer a complete ecosystem of home products.

The bigger question now is what Xiaomi launches next. Looking at Mijia’s global portfolio, products like robot vacuum cleaners, smart kitchen appliances, washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners look like obvious candidates. If Xiaomi follows the same pricing strategy that made its smartphones and smart TVs popular, it could give established brands a tough fight.

For now, Xiaomi has only announced the arrival of the Mijia brand and has not revealed any new products. Still, this feels like more than just a branding exercise. It looks like the company is laying the foundation for a much bigger expansion in India’s home appliance market.

More importantly, this is a sign that Xiaomi wants to be seen as more than a smartphone company. If the upcoming Mijia products are priced well and integrate smoothly with HyperOS, the company could build one of the strongest smart home ecosystems in India over the next few years.
