Xiaomi has launched the REDMI Note 17 in India, bringing one of the biggest batteries ever seen in a mainstream smartphone. The new device combines an 8,000mAh battery, a 6.99-inch 120Hz OLED display, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processor, making it an attractive option for users who prioritize battery life and media consumption.
The REDMI Note 17 features Xiaomi’s first 6.99-inch OLED display. It offers Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 1,800 nits of peak brightness for better outdoor visibility.
The panel supports the DCI-P3 color gamut, has a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and comes with a 240Hz touch sampling rate for smoother touch response. Xiaomi has also included an in-display fingerprint scanner and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection for added durability.
The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset built on a 4nm process. Xiaomi says the processor delivers an AnTuTu score of over 630,000, making it suitable for everyday multitasking, social media, video streaming, and casual gaming.
To improve thermal performance, the phone includes a large 10,416 sq. mm graphite cooling system that helps keep temperatures under control during extended use.
The REDMI Note 17 ships with Android 16 running HyperOS 3. Xiaomi has promised four generations of Android OS updates and six years of security updates, making the phone a better long-term investment than many devices in the same segment.
It features a 50MP primary camera with AI-powered scene detection that automatically adjusts settings based on the shooting environment. On the front, the phone has an 8MP selfie camera for video calls and selfies. Xiaomi has also added AI camera features to improve portrait shots, low-light photography, and color reproduction.
While the camera hardware is relatively simple compared to higher-end smartphones, Xiaomi appears to be relying on software processing to deliver better image quality.
It offers an in-display fingerprint sensor and an infrared sensor. It has bottom ported speaker and connectivity options are 5G, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.1, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C.
The phone packs an 8,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which Xiaomi claims can deliver up to three days of usage on a single charge under typical conditions. The battery is managed by the company’s Surge G1 battery management chip to improve efficiency and battery health.
The device supports 45W wired fast charging, with the charger included in the box. It also supports 22.5W wired reverse charging, allowing users to charge accessories or even another smartphone.
Despite carrying an 8,000mAh battery, Xiaomi says the REDMI Note 17 maintains a relatively slim profile at 8.45mm thick and weighs 225 grams. The phone features a metallic middle frame with a matte finish on the back. It also comes with IP65 dust and water resistance, making it more durable for everyday use.
The REDMI Note 17 is available in Starlight Purple, Dark Night, and Arctic Blue color options.
