Path of Exile 2 is finally ready to leave Early Access. Grinding Gear Games has confirmed that the action RPG will launch its full version on December 11, 2026, almost two years after its Early Access debut.
The game will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will also become free-to-play with the 1.0 release. This makes December an important milestone for players who have been waiting to experience the game after its Early Access period.
But the full launch is not just about removing the Early Access label. Grinding Gear Games is also adding a new class, a new weapon type, more campaign content, and a large endgame.
The full launch will also add new content, including the Duelist class and swords. The Duelist is a Strength and Dexterity class focused on fast melee combat. Swords will add another weapon type to the game and should also open up new character builds.
Path of Exile 2 has a deep character-building system. The game features 12 character classes, with three Ascendancy specializations for each class. Players can also combine skills from different classes instead of being locked into a fixed playstyle.
The game includes 240 Skill Gems and 200 Support Gems. Support Gems are now socketed directly into Skill Gems, making the system less complicated than the original Path of Exile. The Passive Skill Tree also returns with around 1,500 skills, along with Dual Specialization that lets players build around different weapon and skill types.
The full release will also complete the game’s six-act campaign. There are more than 100 bosses across the campaign, with each one having its own mechanics. After finishing the campaign, players can move into an endgame featuring more than 100 maps, each with its own boss encounter.
Grinding Gear Games is also making the game easier to play with friends. Path of Exile 2 will support cross-play and cross-progression between PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players can also play together in couch co-op on the same console, including with two separate Path of Exile accounts.
The biggest change for new players is that the game will be free-to-play when version 1.0 launches. Grinding Gear Games has also confirmed that it will not be pay-to-win.
Path of Exile 2 has already gone through a long Early Access period, but December 11 will mark the start of its full release. With the completed campaign, new Duelist class, swords, expanded endgame, and free-to-play model, this could be the point where the game finally reaches the audience that has been waiting for the finished version.
