iPhone 18 Pro Max Could Get a Much Bigger Battery, New Certification Filing Suggests

iPhone 17 Pro

The upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series could bring better battery life, especially for the Pro Max model. A new certification filing spotted in China’s C3 database suggests Apple is increasing battery capacity for its next-generation Pro iPhones.

The information was first shared by well-known Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station. While the certification does not directly mention the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max, the listed battery models are widely believed to belong to these upcoming devices.

According to the filing, the iPhone 18 Pro will feature a 4,056mAh battery in China and a 4,288mAh battery in the United States. This is only a small increase over the iPhone 17 Pro, which is rated at 3,988mAh in China and 4,252mAh in the U.S.

The bigger change is expected on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The filing lists a 5,391mAh battery for the Chinese model and a 5,567mAh battery for the U.S. model. Compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, this is an increase of nearly 500mAh.

Apple has continued to ship iPhones with a physical SIM tray in many countries, including China. However, iPhones sold in the U.S. have been eSIM-only since the iPhone 14 series. Without the SIM tray, Apple gets a little more internal space, allowing it to fit a slightly larger battery in U.S. models.

The certification also reveals battery model numbers S2232 and S2233 for the iPhone 18 Pro, while the Pro Max is associated with battery models 2235L/2235 and 2236L/2236. The documents mention a maximum rated energy of up to 21.751Wh and a charge limit voltage of 4.520V. The certifications remain valid until May or June 2031.

Interestingly, these battery capacities match an earlier report from Digital Chat Station shared in June. In another recent post, the tipster claimed that supply chain information had already pointed to the iPhone 18 Pro Max crossing the 5,000mAh mark.

If these numbers turn out to be accurate, the larger battery combined with Apple’s rumored 2nm A20 Pro chip could result in a noticeable improvement in battery life. A more efficient processor along with a higher battery capacity is expected to help the iPhone 18 Pro Max last longer than previous generations.

Apart from battery upgrades, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is also rumored to feature a smaller Dynamic Island, a variable aperture main camera, and Apple’s C2 modem in models sold outside the U.S.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September next year, alongside its first foldable iPhone. As always, these details are based on leaks and certification filings, so the final specifications may change before the official launch.
