watchOS 27 Announced With New Features and Performance Improvements for Apple Watch

watchOS 27

Apple has unveiled watchOS 27, the next major software update for Apple Watch, at WWDC 2026. The update focuses on better performance, improved accuracy, and smarter system features across daily use. watchOS 27 does not bring a major visual redesign, but it improves how the system works in the background and makes common tasks faster and more reliable.

One of the key improvements in watchOS 27 is better battery efficiency. Apple has worked on system optimisation to help the Apple Watch last longer during normal usage.

The update also brings more accurate step tracking. Activity data has been refined to improve consistency during workouts and daily movement.

Connectivity is also improved in watchOS 27. Wi-Fi switching is now smoother, which should help reduce connection drops and delays.

Apple is also introducing new convenience features. A guest key option has been added, allowing limited access sharing in a controlled way. GymKit is also expanding and now works across both iPhone and Apple Watch, instead of being limited to Apple Watch only.

The Find My experience has been consolidated. So, this makes it easier to track devices and people from a single view. App performance has also been improved, with faster launch times for apps and extensions.

watchOS 27 also adds a new tap gesture for quicker interaction. Media playback starts faster, reducing delay when playing music or videos.

The Smart Stack has been improved with a dynamic app grid and smarter suggestions based on usage patterns. Transit cards and IDs can now appear directly in Smart Stack for quick access.

Apple has also improved water detection features on Apple Watch, making alerts more efficient and responsive.

Other changes include a redesigned settings interface in the Apple Watch app and the ability to view card balances directly in Wallet.
