Sony hosted its latest State of Play showcase today, packing more than 60 minutes of game announcements, trailers, gameplay reveals, and release date confirmations. The event featured several major surprises, including a brand-new God of War game starring Faye, an extended look at Marvel’s Wolverine, and release dates for highly anticipated titles such as Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
The showcase confirms Sony’s plans for the rest of 2026 while also offering a glimpse at several major games coming in 2027.
One of the biggest announcements was God of War Laufey, the next mainline entry in Santa Monica Studio’s acclaimed franchise. This time, players will step into the role of Faye, the warrior and wife of Kratos. The game follows her journey through the afterlife of the gods as she fights to protect those she loves. Sony did not announce a release date but confirmed it is coming to PlayStation 5.
Another major highlight was Marvel’s Wolverine. Insomniac Games showcased new gameplay footage featuring Logan’s brutal combat abilities, Jean Grey, and the mutant-hunting Reavers. Sony confirmed that the game will launch on September 15, 2026, for PlayStation 5.
Fans of Lara Croft also received good news. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis was officially dated for February 12, 2027. Developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, the game promises a return to classic Tomb Raider-style exploration and adventure.
Several other games also received launch dates during the event. Remedy Entertainment confirmed that Control Resonant launches on September 24, while Silent Hill: Townfall will also arrive on the same day. Capcom announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches on September 25, and a playable demo is available now.
Bandai Namco revealed that Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will launch on October 2, bringing a new campaign and large-scale aerial battles. Meanwhile, Phantom Blade Zero received a release date of October 29 and will get its own dedicated State of Play showcase later this summer.
Sony also announced Until Dawn 2, a standalone sequel featuring a new cast and story. The game is scheduled to launch in 2027.
