Gears of War: E-Day Launches October 6 for Xbox Series and PC

Gears of War: E-Day

Xbox Game Studios and The Coalition have confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will launch on October 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game will also be available on Game Pass from day one.

The announcement finally gives fans a release date for one of Xbox’s most anticipated upcoming games. First revealed in 2024, Gears of War: E-Day takes players back to the event that changed the world forever: Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde first emerged from beneath the planet and plunged humanity into chaos.

The game is set 14 years before the original Gears of War and follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they fight to survive the first devastating Locust invasion. Rather than continuing the story after Gears 5, The Coalition has chosen to revisit the origins of the franchise and explore one of the most important moments in Gears lore.

Gears of War: E-Day promises a darker tone and a stronger focus on horror than recent entries in the series. The Locust are being redesigned to feel more terrifying, while new enemy types and creatures will be introduced throughout the campaign.

The game will also bring back classic Gears gameplay while introducing modern improvements. Players can expect refined movement, updated traversal mechanics, and new weapons designed for brutal close-range combat. The signature cover-based shooting system remains at the heart of the experience.

The fan-favorite Horde mode returns as Horde Siege, featuring larger battlefields, bigger enemy waves, shared objectives, and boss encounters. Players can choose from different classes including Assault, Marksman, Medic, and Breacher while teaming up to survive the Locust assault.

Competitive multiplayer is making a return as well, with refined 4v4 modes, ranked playlists, and new maps built specifically for the latest generation of hardware.

The Coalition is targeting 4K resolution and up to 60 FPS across both campaign and multiplayer. The game will also support ultrawide displays on PC, cross-platform play, handheld devices such as Steam Deck and Xbox Ally, and optional account linking for cross-platform progression.

Players who pre-order the game will receive access to the open beta starting August 6, along with the Exfil Dom Character Skin and Exfil Weapon Skin Set.
