Dune: Awakening Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series on September 22

Dune: Awakening

Funcom has announced that Dune: Awakening will launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026. The game will also arrive on Xbox Game Pass and the Microsoft Store on the same day.

The survival MMO first launched on PC in June 2025 and quickly became one of Steam’s biggest releases of the year. At its peak, the game attracted more than 189,000 concurrent players on Steam. It shows a strong interest in Funcom’s ambitious take on Frank Herbert’s sci-fi universe.

However, Dune Awakening Steam Chart recorded by Techlomedia has slowed significantly over the past year. According to Steam data, Dune: Awakening currently averages around 1,170 concurrent players, with a 24-hour peak of just over 10,400 players. Twitch interest has also cooled, with only a few dozen viewers watching the game at the time of writing, compared to an all-time peak of more than 221,000 viewers during its launch period.

The console launch could therefore represent a major second chance for the game.

Unlike many delayed console ports, PlayStation and Xbox players will not be getting the same version that launched on PC last year. Instead, they will receive what Funcom calls the definitive edition, including all major updates, gameplay improvements, balance changes, quality-of-life updates, and story content released since launch.

The game will offer a fully playable single-player mode. While Dune: Awakening launched as a multiplayer-focused survival experience, players will now be able to complete the entire game solo with adjustable difficulty settings and extensive gameplay customization options.

The September update will also bring the conclusion of Book One, completing the game’s first major story arc.

The company is not stopping with the September release. Funcom has already confirmed a major free update later this year that will introduce the Polar Cap, a completely new survival map featuring icy environments and new gameplay mechanics, offering a very different experience from the deserts of Arrakis.

The timing of the console launch is interesting. While Dune: Awakening enjoyed a strong debut on PC, its player numbers have dropped considerably over the last year. By launching on consoles, adding Game Pass support, and packaging a year’s worth of updates into a single release, Funcom appears to be positioning September as a soft relaunch for the game.
