Capcom Announces Resident Evil: Veronica Remake, Launching in 2027

Resident Evil: Veronica

Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil: Veronica, a remake of the classic survival horror game Resident Evil Code: Veronica. The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest 2026. The game is set to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

The remake marks the return of one of the most requested Resident Evil titles. While Capcom remade Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 between 2019 and 2023, Code: Veronica was notably absent from the lineup. Many fans have been waiting for a modern version of the game for years.

Originally released in 2000 for the Dreamcast, Resident Evil Code: Veronica was an important entry in the series. It continued the story of Claire Redfield after the events of Resident Evil 2 and served as a key link in the storyline leading to Resident Evil 5.

In Resident Evil: Veronica, players once again take control of Claire Redfield. While searching for her brother Chris Redfield, Claire is captured by Umbrella and taken to the remote Rockfort Island. After a T-virus outbreak spreads across the island, she must fight for survival while uncovering the secrets of the Ashford family. The story also features the return of fan-favorite villain Albert Wesker.

Capcom has confirmed that the remake is being developed using its proprietary RE Engine. The company says the game will feature modernized gameplay and a new level of realism while preserving the survival horror experience that made the original game popular.

The announcement trailer focuses mainly on cinematic sequences and story moments. It includes scenes featuring Claire Redfield and several locations from the original game. However, Capcom did not showcase any gameplay footage during the reveal.

Visually, the game appears to continue the high-quality presentation seen in previous Resident Evil remakes. The RE Engine has powered several successful Capcom titles over the past few years, including Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Requiem.

Capcom has not announced a specific release date yet and has only confirmed a 2027 launch window. The company has also not revealed pricing details. Industry insiders have suggested that the game could arrive in the first quarter of 2027, but Capcom has not officially confirmed that information.

Another notable aspect of the announcement is the game’s day-one release on Nintendo Switch 2. This follows the approach Capcom is taking with Resident Evil Requiem and suggests the company views Nintendo’s new console as an important platform for future releases.

Pre-orders are not yet available, and regional pricing for different markets has not been announced. More details, including gameplay footage, are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
