Android Adds New Safety Tools for Children and Teenagers

Android Adds New Safety Tools for Children

Google is expanding Android’s safety features for younger users with a new set of tools designed specifically for children and teenagers. The updates, announced as part of the June Android Drop, will be added to the Personal Safety app and aim to provide families with more peace of mind during emergencies.

The new features are expected to roll out soon and will give younger Android users access to tools that were previously available only to adults.

One of the biggest additions is support for children under the age of 13. They will be able to store important medical information and emergency contacts that can be accessed directly from the device’s lock screen.

This information can be crucial during emergencies when first responders or bystanders need immediate access to medical details or family contacts.

Google is also bringing Car Crash Detection to younger users. The feature can automatically detect serious vehicle accidents and contact emergency services if needed. It can also notify emergency contacts after a crash.

Car Crash Detection first debuted on Pixel smartphones and later expanded to additional Android devices. The feature has become one of Android’s most notable safety tools, particularly for users who spend significant time on the road.

Teenagers will gain access to several location-based safety features within the Personal Safety app. This includes Safety Check, which allows users to set a timer when traveling alone or heading to a destination. If they do not check in before the timer expires, the device can automatically share their location with trusted contacts.

Google is also enabling real-time location sharing with emergency contacts, making it easier for family members to keep track of a teenager’s whereabouts during travel or emergencies.

The Personal Safety app has gradually evolved into one of Android’s most important built-in safety tools. Over the years, Google has added features such as Emergency SOS, emergency contact sharing, safety checks, crisis alerts, emergency location services, and car crash detection. Many of these features were initially introduced on Pixel devices before becoming available across a wider range of Android smartphones.

The latest update extends those capabilities to younger users, reflecting growing demand from parents for better digital safety tools.

Google says the new Personal Safety features will begin rolling out soon. The Personal Safety app is available globally, although feature availability may vary depending on device compatibility, region, and local emergency service support.
