Apple Agrees to $250 Million Settlement Over Apple Intelligence Advertising Claims

Apple has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit in the United States for $250 million over claims related to the marketing of Apple Intelligence features on newer iPhones.

The lawsuit, filed in a California federal court last year, accused Apple of promoting AI features that were either unavailable at launch or far more limited than what buyers expected. While Apple has not admitted any wrongdoing, the company agreed to settle the matter.

The settlement covers users who purchased an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 in the United States between June 2024 and March 2025.

The agreement still requires approval from a judge during a hearing scheduled for June 17, 2026.

Reports suggest the settlement may cover nearly 36 million eligible devices. Depending on the number of claims filed, buyers could receive payouts ranging from $25 to $95 per device.

Clarkson Law Firm said eligible users will be able to submit claims through a settlement website that is expected to go live in the coming weeks.

There is currently no confirmation about payouts for users outside the United States.

Apple introduced Apple Intelligence in 2024 as a major part of its AI strategy, promising smarter on-device experiences, AI-assisted writing tools, and a more capable Siri assistant. However, several features showcased during launch announcements arrived later than expected, while some were released gradually through beta updates. This led to criticism from users who expected a more complete AI experience at launch.

Lawyers involved in the case claimed Apple marketed AI capabilities that “did not exist at the time” and may still take years to fully arrive.

Even after Apple started rolling out some features, reactions remained mixed. Some users reported inaccurate responses, increased storage usage, and concerns around reliability.

Apple responded to the settlement by saying, “We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.”

Apple is expected to announce major updates to Apple Intelligence during the Worldwide Developers Conference 2026 later this year, where the company will likely try to strengthen confidence in its AI platform.
