NBA The Run has been officially announced by Play by Play Studios. The game will launch in June for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.
There is also a closed beta test before launch. It will run on PC via Steam on May 1 for a few hours. So players will get a small early look before release.
NBA The Run is focused entirely on 3v3 street basketball. It is not trying to be a full simulation experience. Instead, the game is built around fast matches, arcade-style gameplay, and competitive street courts. The core idea is to offer short games, quick action, and constant movement.
The main mode in NBA The Run is called Run the World Tournament. It is a knockout-style tournament where teams of three players compete on street courts across different locations. Each match pushes you closer to the final.
At the end, there is a championship game. That is where the winner takes the trophy.
At launch, the game will include three main modes. Knockout Squads allows players to join a team of three, where each person controls one player and works together with friends or random teammates. Knockout Solos takes a different approach, letting players build their own team of three characters and compete against other players’ setups. Then there is Knockout Friends, a private mode that allows solo play, co-op with friends, or full private tournaments with up to 48 players.
The roster will include more than 30 real NBA players along with five fictional streetball legends. Each character is expected to have different playstyles, which will affect how they move and perform on the court. The focus of gameplay is on speed and responsiveness, with short matches that rely on timing, positioning, and quick decisions rather than complex mechanics.
NBA The Run is the first game from Play by Play Studios. The team is made up of developers who have previously worked on major sports game franchises, and the studio says its goal is to bring back the feel of classic sports games while building something modern for today’s online audience.
