Metro 2039 Announced, Full Reveal Set for Xbox Showcase This Week

Metro 2039

4A Games has officially confirmed the next game in the Metro series. The new title is called Metro 2039, and the full reveal is happening later this week. The announcement comes after months of leaks and rumors. Now it is official, and fans will not have to wait long to see more.

The studio says the game will be revealed on April 16 during a special Xbox presentation. This showcase is being done in partnership with Xbox and will be streamed online.

The event, called “Xbox First Look,” will give the first proper look at Metro 2039. It will be a digital-only broadcast and will stream on Xbox’s YouTube channel. The company is also adding support for multiple languages, along with accessibility features like audio descriptions and sign language.

The Metro series started with Metro 2033 back in 2010. It was followed by Last Light and later Redux. The most recent main entry was Metro Exodus, which launched in 2019.

All games are based on the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky and are known for their dark, post-apocalyptic setting.

Metro 2039 will continue that story. The game will once again take players into the underground tunnels of Moscow, where survivors are trying to live after a nuclear disaster. Going by the name, the story should take place after the events of Metro Exodus. That game followed Artyom’s journey outside the metro system, and it had multiple endings based on player choices.

It is still not clear which ending will be treated as canon in the new game. There is also a chance that the new title may introduce a different protagonist instead of continuing Artyom’s story.

Metro games have always focused on storytelling, atmosphere, and survival elements. If 4A Games keeps that same approach, Metro 2039 could easily become one of the most interesting single-player releases to watch.
