Google Brings AI Mode to Windows App, Promises Faster Search and Smarter Productivity

Google Windows App

Google has updated its dedicated Windows app with new AI-powered features aimed at improving productivity and making search faster across the system.

Many users are still not aware that Google offers a standalone app for Windows. The company first introduced it as a Search Labs experiment back in September 2025. Now, it is getting a notable upgrade with the addition of AI capabilities.

The most notable highlight of this update is the new AI Mode. This feature allows users to ask questions in natural language and get AI-generated answers in a chat-style interface. The responses also include relevant web links, making it easier to explore topics without opening a browser.

The app is designed to provide system-wide access using a simple shortcut. By pressing Alt + Space, users can instantly search for files, apps, and information from the web. It also pulls results from Google Drive, making it useful for people who rely on cloud storage.

Another useful addition is screen sharing support. Users can select a window or even share their entire screen while asking questions. This helps in getting quick assistance without switching between apps, which can save time during work.

Google has also integrated Lens into the app. With this, users can search for anything visible on their screen. It can identify text, translate content, or even help solve problems directly from images.

While the app offers convenience, some users may question whether it is necessary. Opening a browser like Google Chrome and searching manually only takes a few seconds. However, Google is clearly focusing on reducing friction and keeping users in their workflow.

The updated Google app for Windows is currently available for users running Windows 10 or later. It also requires users to be at least 13 years old and supports English language usage globally.
