Clear River Games has announced a new entry in the classic Truxton series. The upcoming game, Truxton Extreme, will launch on July 30, 2026. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and GOG. Both digital and physical editions will be available. There will also be a special bonus for early buyers.
This is the first new Truxton game in 38 years. The original Truxton was released in 1988 and became popular for its fast-paced gameplay and strong soundtrack.
For this new title, the original creator, Masahiro Yuge, is also involved. The game aims to bring back the classic shoot ’em up experience while updating it for modern players.
Truxton Extreme is a vertical scrolling shooter with a full 3D visual upgrade. It keeps the core gameplay style but adds modern elements. The game will feature 18 chapters along with a story told through comic-style visuals. These are created by Junya Inoue, known for his work on manga like BTOOM.
Players will follow three characters, Ash, Bergamot, and Cyrilla, as they fight to defend Earth. This is the first time the series includes a deeper storyline with character-driven elements.
The game is not limited to just one style of play. It includes several modes to keep things interesting.
Story mode mixes gameplay with comics to unlock episodes. Arcade mode offers a more traditional experience with continuous action. There is also a beginner-friendly mode that makes the game more forgiving. For those who prefer multiplayer, there is a co-op mode where two players can play together. Other modes include a time-based challenge and a side activity where players can build a small in-game village by rescuing characters.
Truxton Extreme will be available in standard and deluxe digital editions. Physical editions are also planned for consoles.
There will also be a special Thunder Master Edition. It includes extra items like an art book, manga, soundtrack CDs, and collectibles. Early buyers of this edition will also receive a bonus plush item, while stocks last.
