Samsung has announced HDR10+ Advanced, a new high dynamic range standard that takes visual quality to the next level. This upgraded format promises brighter highlights, smarter motion handling, and adaptive visuals that respond to room lighting.

The new HDR10+ Advanced can reportedly reach up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness, compared to HDR10’s 1,000 nits and HDR10+’s 4,000 nits. This means brighter highlights, deeper blacks, and more lifelike details. It also introduces ambient light adaptation, ensuring your TV adjusts brightness and contrast based on the lighting in your room.

Samsung says HDR10+ Advanced is designed to compete with Dolby Vision 2, which was announced earlier this year. Like Dolby Vision 2, it brings improved tone mapping and motion smoothing, but unlike Dolby Vision, HDR10+ Advanced remains royalty-free, making it easier for TV makers and streaming platforms to adopt.

One of the key features of HDR10+ Advanced is genre-based optimization. It can automatically adjust image processing based on what you are watching, whether it is movies, sports, or gaming. For gamers, it also promises smoother motion and better visual consistency across fast-paced scenes.

The format also improves local dimming precision, helping to produce accurate highlights and richer shadows. Overall, it is designed to make HDR visuals look more natural and dynamic in every environment.

Samsung confirmed that HDR10+ Advanced will first appear in its 2026 lineup of high-end TVs. The company also revealed that Amazon Prime Video will be the first major streaming platform to support the new format. Other platforms like Netflix and Disney+ may take longer to adopt it, as they were slow to embrace HDR10+ in the past.
