NCSOFT has announced Horizon Steel Frontiers, a new MMORPG based on Sony’s popular Horizon franchise. The game is being developed in collaboration with PlayStation Studios and Guerrilla Games, the studio behind Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. It will be available for PC (via NCSOFT’s PURPLE platform), iOS, and Android, though a release date has not been revealed yet.
Horizon Steel Frontiers is set in a new region called Deadlands, a vast frontier where machine hunters survive and compete for resources. The game takes place in the familiar post-apocalyptic world of Horizon, where humanity coexists with massive, animal-like machines.
This is the first MMORPG in the Horizon series, designed to bring players together in one shared world. Unlike the single-player Horizon games, this version focuses on cooperative and competitive multiplayer, which allows players to hunt giant machines alongside others or face rival tribes for control of territory.
The game promises large-scale raids, strategic combat, and deep character customization. Players will be able to create their own machine hunter by choosing from several tribes seen in the original Horizon games, including the Nora, Tenakth, Uturu, and Oseram.
Players can modify their characters’ fighting styles and abilities, making every hunter unique. During battles, players can climb onto machines, set traps, or even use parts of defeated machines as weapons, adding tactical depth to the action.
Unlike the previous Horizon titles designed for consoles, Horizon Steel Frontiers is being built for PC and mobile platforms. It will support cross-play between devices, creating one seamless online world for all players. The game will be free to play, with NCSOFT’s PURPLE platform handling online connectivity for PC users.
