Rockstar Games is trying to ease the pain of yet another GTA 6 delay by giving players something to look forward to. The studio has announced that GTA Online is now free to play for a limited time on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

This offer comes right after fans spotted that GTA Online’s PlayStation Plus requirement had been removed, sparking speculation about a free trial. Rockstar has now made it official — players can jump into GTA Online without any subscription barriers, at least for a short while.

Starting today, players can download and play GTA Online for free directly from the PlayStation or Xbox Store. Just search for “GTA Online,” and you should see the option to download it. If the price tag still appears, wait a few hours for the free trial period to fully roll out.

The free trial will last until November 17, giving players a full week to explore the sprawling world of Los Santos and Blaine County. However, this offer includes only the online component of GTA 5, not the full single-player story mode.

This move seems to be Rockstar’s response to the criticism it received for adding GTA Online to the GTA+ subscription while still keeping it behind a PS Plus paywall. That meant some players had to pay for two separate subscriptions just to access the game. The free trial finally fixes that issue, even if only temporarily.

While this free access to GTA Online is a nice gesture, fans are still frustrated about the recent GTA 6 delay. Many expected a release window announcement, but Rockstar has pushed things further, without a clear date in sight.

Still, GTA 5 and GTA Online continue to dominate charts nearly a decade after their release, remaining among the best-selling and most-played games on both PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
