BioWare has finally confirmed that a new Mass Effect game is officially in development. The news reignites excitement among fans of one of gaming’s most iconic sci-fi franchises. In a new N7 Day update, Mass Effect executive producer Mike Gamble wrote, “Let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe.”

Gamble said the team is “heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect,” hinting that they have “a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out.” While there is no release date or platform confirmation yet, this statement makes one thing clear. BioWare is fully back in the Mass Effect universe.

The enthusiasm surrounding this announcement is easy to understand. Mass Effect is not just another RPG series. It is a cultural landmark in gaming. Since the first game launched in 2007, the franchise has sold over 25 million copies worldwide. This proves the game’s lasting appeal.

Each major title in the franchise has been a success story. The first Mass Effect crossed 1 million sales in just three weeks. Mass Effect 2 shipped over 2 million copies in its first week, and Mass Effect 3 sold nearly 900,000 copies within 24 hours. Even the 2021 Mass Effect Legendary Edition, a remastered version of the original trilogy, outperformed EA’s expectations and became one of Steam’s top releases that year.

These numbers show that Mass Effect has not only survived but continued to attract new players over nearly two decades. The series remains known for its emotional storytelling, moral choices, and rich world-building. These qualities helped it become one of BioWare’s most successful creations.

Gamble also mentioned the Mass Effect television series currently in development at Amazon. He said the writers are “going strong” and confirmed that the show will be set after the original trilogy, telling a completely new story within the same universe.

After the mixed response to Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2017, fans have been waiting for a true return to the franchise’s roots. The upcoming game, teased since 2020, now represents that comeback.
