Samsung Rolls Out One UI 8 Stable Update Based on Android 16

Samsung has officially started rolling out the stable One UI 8 update. The rollout begins with the Galaxy S25 series after months of beta testing that started back in May. One UI 8 is based on Android 16 and brings advanced AI features, a cleaner design, and several security improvements. Samsung is calling this its biggest step forward in making Galaxy devices more intelligent and personalized.

Rollout Details and Eligible Devices

The Galaxy S25 series is the first to receive the stable update. Next in line are the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, and Galaxy S24 FE. These devices will start receiving the update throughout October.

Later this year, Samsung will expand the rollout to a wide range of older Galaxy models. Eligible devices include:

  • Galaxy S Series – Galaxy S23, S22, and selected S21 models, including S21 FE.
  • Galaxy Z Series – Galaxy Z Fold5, Flip5, Fold4, Flip4.
  • Galaxy FE Series – Galaxy S23 FE, S24 FE, Tab S10 FE, Tab S9 FE, and Tab S8 FE.
  • Galaxy Tablets – Galaxy Tab S10, Tab S9, Tab S8 series, and their Lite versions.
  • Galaxy A Series – A73, A56 5G, A55 5G, A54 5G, A53 5G, A36 5G, A35 5G, A34 5G, A33 5G, A26 5G, A25 5G, A17 5G, A17, A16 5G, A16, A15 5G, A07, and A06 models.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch lineup will also get new features as part of this update, with tighter integration between phones and wearables.

One UI 8 focuses on making Galaxy devices smarter and safer.

  • Now Bar – Shows real-time app activity and media progress on the Galaxy Z Flip’s FlexWindow, with expanded support for third-party apps.
  • Now Brief – Provides daily personalized updates such as traffic alerts, reminders, Samsung Moments, and recommendations for music or videos. It can even integrate health data from Samsung Health and Galaxy Watch.
  • Samsung Knox Enhancements
    • KEEP (Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection): Creates encrypted storage for each app so private data remains isolated.
    • Knox Matrix: Signs out devices from a Samsung Account if serious risks are detected. It also sends alerts across all connected Galaxy devices.
    • Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC): A new layer of security that protects privacy over public networks.

Intelligent Multimodality and AI Features

Samsung is leaning heavily on AI for One UI 8, powered by multimodal intelligence that combines visuals, audio, and context.

  • Gemini Live – Understands what the user is seeing in real time and enables natural interaction with AI. Now also works on the FlexWindow for hands-free voice search.
  • Circle to Search with Google – Lets users circle anything on the screen for instant information, guides, or video links. It now includes gaming help and real-time translation.
  • AI Results View – Displays AI-generated results in Split View or Floating View, keeping the main screen clutter-free.
  • AI Optimized for Large Screens – On tablets, users can drag and drop AI-generated content directly into their workflow.
  • Audio Eraser – Removes background noise from audio and video with a single tap.
  • Portrait Studio – Uses AI to create artistic portraits of pets and people.
  • Call Captions and Interpreter – Converts voices into text during calls and allows typed translations.

New Design and Customization Options

One UI 8 also brings more personalization options for Galaxy devices.

  • Custom Clocks – Clock designs now adapt to wallpapers and objects for better visibility, with adjustable font thickness, size, and color.
  • Wallpaper Tools – Create custom FlexWindow wallpapers with gallery recommendations, emojis, and background color options.
