WhatsApp has been slowly adding new features to keep up with social media trends, and the latest one is interesting. WhatsApp just made its Status feature a lot more fun. The messaging app now lets you add music to your Status updates, making it easier to share your favorite moments with the perfect soundtrack.
Next time you create a Status, you will see a music note icon at the top of the screen. Tap on it, and you will get access to a huge library of songs. You can search for your favorite track—whether it’s a trending hit, a nostalgic classic, or just a song that fits your mood.
For photos, you can add up to 15 seconds of music, while videos allow up to 60 seconds. You can also pick the exact part of the song that plays, so you can match the vibe of your Status perfectly.
With this new feature, WhatsApp is trying to catch up to platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, which have had music integration for a while. On Instagram Stories, for example, users can pick songs, customize how they appear, and even sync them with short video clips. Snapchat also offers music stickers, but WhatsApp’s approach is a little different. WhatsApp says that your Status remains end-to-end encrypted. It means no one, including WhatsApp, can see or track the songs you add.
However, WhatsApp still lacks some creative tools that Instagram offers. For instance, there’s no option to display lyrics on the screen or adjust the visual layout of the music overlay.
This feature is rolling out globally and will expand to more users over the next few weeks.
