Bluetooth Special Interest Group has announced the latest Bluetooth 6.0. The latest version brings new features and several improvements. It is also more reliable and secure than previous versions of Bluetooth standards.
It comes with Bluetooth Channel Sounding that introduces true distance awareness. The feature will be helpful for features like Find My and digital keys. Bluetooth 6.0 can accurately measure the distance between devices to offer precise location tracking.
Bluetooth 6.0 also offers improved scanning efficiency to reduce power consumption. The LL Extended Feature allows devices to exchange information about their supported link-layer features.
Bluetooth 6.0 has also imposed Isochronous Adaptation Layer (ISOAL) by defining a new framing mode. The new framing mode helps reduce latency and improve reliability for audio applications.
It can transform devices to exchange information about their supported link-layer features including wearables, smart home, IoT, and automotive.
The latest version comes with more robust encryption algorithms to protect data transition. It also uses advanced key management protocols to ensure that the cryptographic key is security generated, managed, and distributed. To protect against brute-force attacks, it also features an improved pairing method.
In the coming months, device manufacturers will start adding Bluetooth 6.0 to their devices. But it will take a while for adoption.
