Valve has now added a built-in game recorder in Steam Deck in beta. So, users now don’t need to rely on third-party apps and services to record their gameplay.
This native recorder can either be set to start recording in the background when you start playing a game or start recording when you press a hotkey. For background recording, you need to set the maximum amount of storage recordings can take on the device. Once the limit is exceeded, it will overwrite old recordings.
Users can replay their clips and also clip the footage to keep only the desired part of your gameplay. Users can save records in MP4 for sharing on social media. There will also one a one-click share option to share the clips with friends in chat.
The recorder can only record gameplay with audio from voice chat programs. It won’t record the desktop. The company has confirmed that the recorder supports all Steam games along with several non-steam games that support Steam Overlay.
The feature is in beta. So, you need to join the beta program to get access to it. Once you join the beta program, you can activate the Game Recording option from the Settings menu.
