At CES 2024, Samsung showcased the world’s pioneering transparent MicroLED display, marking a significant leap in display technology.
Samsung has been working hard on transparent displays for years. However, the latest Transparent MicroLED Screens promise superior experience compared to its competitors. Samsung presented three distinct transparent MicroLED displays during the event. Two of the demonstration units featured tinted glass. The third unit featured a seamless and frameless design offering complete transparency akin to regular glass.
Experiencing Samsung’s transparent MicroLED displays in person is a truly unique encounter, with content seemingly taking on a holographic appearance as it hovers in mid-air. All demo units were freestanding and impressively thin, measuring only about a centimeter thick, enhancing the illusion of a floating screen. Additionally, the high pixel density of micro LEDs contributed to exceptionally sharp and vivid images.
According to a Samsung representative, the transparent MicroLED displays offer superior brightness compared to their OLED counterparts, making them less susceptible to the impact of ambient light.
Samsung has not confirmed anything about the cost and retail availability of these Transparent MicroLED Screens. Samsung’s non-transparent MicroLED TVs, with a 110-inch model, costs a staggering $150,000. These Transparent microLED Screens will cost much higher. It will also take time to make these screens durable enough to launch in the market as a consumer product.
