GTA 5 Source Code Leaked a Year After Rockstar Games Hack

The source code for the widely popular Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) has reportedly been leaked online on Christmas Eve. This leak comes over a year after the notorious Lapsus$ threat actors targeted Rockstar Games, breaching their security and making off with valuable corporate data.

Links to download the stolen GTA 5 source code have been circulating across various channels, including Discord, dark web platforms, and a Telegram channel previously used by the hackers to leak Rockstar data. The leaked source code was shared by ‘Phil,’ the owner of a Grand Theft Auto leak channel on Telegram, who also paid homage to Lapsus$ hacker Arion Kurtaj.

Arion Kurtaj, known for leaking pre-release videos of Grand Theft Auto 6 under the pseudonym ‘teapotuberhacker,’ was recently sentenced to an indefinite hospital stay by a UK judge for his involvement in hacking Rockstar and Uber.

Rockstar Games fell victim to the Lapsus$ hacking group in 2022, compromising the company’s internal Slack server and Confluence wiki. The threat actors claimed to have stolen source code and assets for both GTA 5 and the yet-to-be-released GTA 6. Some of the stolen content, including a GTA 6 testing build, was leaked on various forums and Telegram.

According to the security research group vx-underground, the leaker claims to have received the source code in August 2023. The motivation cited was to combat scams in the GTA V modding scene, where individuals were allegedly being deceived by those claiming to possess the GTA V source code.

At this moment, I can’t confirm the authenticity of the leaked source code. We are trying to contact Rockstar Games for comments and answers about this data leak.
