Earlier this month, DMRC introduced QR-based tickets in select metro stations. Now it has extended the same to launch WhatsApp-based ticketing service for commuters to travel on the Airport Line. This system lets users purchase QR-code based tickets through a WhatsApp chat.
“Further enhancing the travel experience for its commuters in an easy to navigate digital mode, Delhi Metro today introduced a WhatsApp-based ticketing service for travel on its Airport Express Line,” the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said.
To initiate the service, a customer will have to add +91-9650855800 number to their contact list. After this initiate a WhatsApp chat with this number by sending Hi. Then select the language for your conversation by choosing a number representing the different language options provided. After this, select the Buy Ticket option and choose your source and destination metro stations in the next step. After you select the number of tickets you want to buy, it will ask you to pay using multiple options including UPI, credit card, and debit card. Once you make the payment, you will receive QR code-based ticket.
You can get a maximum of 6 QR code-based tickets for a journey. The ticket will be valid till the end of the business day. Once you start the journey, you should exit within 65 mins from the destination station.
There will be no convenience fee for UPI-based transactions, but DMRC will charge a nominal convenience fee if you pay using a credit or debit card.
It is worth noting that the service doesn’t allow cancellation and tickets also cannot be booked after business hours.
This service will surely make it easier for passengers to get tickets if they do not have metro cards. They don’t need to stand in queue for tokens.
