Twitter’s new Blue subscription plan costs $7.99; Brings Blue tick to all Blue subscribers

Twitter

Twitter has updated its iOS app with the changes Musk promised. Starting today, The company has introduced a new Twitter Blue subscription plan that costs $7.99. The app now offers two Blue plans priced at $4.99 and $7.99 respectively.

The changelog also confirmed anyone who subscribes to the new Twitter Blue plan will get a blue checkmark just like celebrities, politicians, brands, and journalists get. But this is currently only available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

I am still not sure how offering a blue checkmark to anyone will help the platform. People on Twitter trust a profile with a blue checkmark. Before this change, the blue checkmark confirms the authenticity of a person or a brand. Scammers can exploit this new system to promote scams from a profile with a blue checkmark.

In the coming days, Twitter Blue subscribers will also get a few new features including half the ads, the ability to post longer videos, and priority ranking in replies, mentions, and search.

Update: The article has been updated to confirm that Twitter has introduced a new pricier Blue plan that costs $7.99.
