Instagram has announced the launch of a few tools to enable video creators to make money from their content on Instagram. Creators can earn through ads in IGTV and badges that viewers can purchase on Instagram Live.
Starting next week, Instagram will start showing ads in IGTV videos for around 200 approved creators. Ads will appear only when people click to watch IGTV videos from the previews. Initial ads will be vertical videos up to 15 seconds long. Instagram will continue testing variations of IGTV ads to see what kinds of ads are offering better engagements.
Creators will get 55% of the revenue Instagram will charge from Advertisers, while the company keeps the other 45%.
Badges on Live videos will be similar yo what other platforms YouTube and Twitch offer. Viewers can choose from different heart badges starting at $0.99. Once purchased, badges will appear next to the person’s name as they comment. Badges will be launched next month with a small group of creators in the U.S.
The company also announced that it will be also let people tag their live videos with brands to more creators. This feature will help creators who want to sell merchandise.
Instagram announces its plan to show ads on IGTV last year but it took the company a whole year to actually implement the plans.
