How to play YouTube videos in background on Android devices

YouTube

If you own an Android phone, you know the YouTube app does not support background playback. If you want to listen to songs on YouTube, you need to be on YouTube app. If you navigate to another screen or open another app on your device, YouTube will stop playback. But, there are few solutions to overcome this issue. If you want to enjoy YouTube in the background, you can try these ways.

How to play YouTube videos in background

YouTube mobile site on Firefox or Safari

Open YouTube in FireFox browser. If you do not have Firefox, install it from Play Store. No, do not try it in Chrome. If you navigate away from Chrome, it will stop the playback same as in YouTube app.

I tried the same thing on iOS. But it was not playing music in background. I couldn’t get success in both Safari and Firefox.

This is the easiest and free solution of this.

YouTube Red

There is another way if you do not want to download a new browser for this. You can purchase the YouTube Red Subscription which costs $9.99 per month. This subscription comes with ‘Background Play’ feature which allows you to enjoy video playback in the background while using other apps.

YouTube Red also removes YouTube ads. So, you can enjoy music without any disturbance.

There are also few third-party apps which let you browse YouTube with option to listen to music in the background. I do not recommend use third-party apps because Google keeps on deleting these kinds of apps.

Now, you know how to play YouTube in the background. You can either try YouTube mobile site on the different browser or pay for YouTube Red. Try any of these ways and enjoy music.
