Android Police Reported that Google’s “Ok Google” voice commands will soon be available offline. They found the code in Google Search app which suggested that offline support is coming soon. Both hotword activation and tapping on the microphone will be supported in offline mode. But you will be restricted to few specific tasks in offline. You will only be able to perform those tasks which does not require internet. These tasks include play a music, take selfie, open an app, make calls, send message and turn on wifi.
Report also claims that Google is also planning to add new voice commands to control the volume of the device and change the briightness.
Android Police used the recent Google Search app in the code teardown process to reveal these things. So, we can expect next Google search app to bring app these new features including offline voice commands and new voice commands. But we cannot confirm when this will be finally available.
It is good to see how Google actively tries to improve its apps to offer better user experience. Offline capabilities will surely help more users specially in countries with slow internet.
