Now Google’s Project Ara has another competitor. After Vsenn module smartphone, Finland’s Circular Devices has also confirmed alternative concept for modular smartphone called the Puzzlephone.
This concept breaks down the handset into three constituent elements: Spine, Heart and Brain. Spine contains LCD, Speakers and basic structure. Heart has battery and secondary electronics devices. Brain contains processor and camera.
Circular Devices confirmed that it has been working on this module smartphone project since last year. Now they are close to release the working prototype as early as second half of 2015. They confirmed that company also got required funding and smartphone will carry mid-range price tag. Smartphone will run on forked version of Android. They are also exploring other options to make this smartphone useful for consumers.
