Google got a patent for new power saving technology that can save power on battery powered devices. This technology changes the display quality depending on the battery level.
This technology works on OLED display. It determines the battery level of the device and then select an operating mode. It has basically three operating modes that depends on the battery level range. We ca expect this technology to come with Motorola X phones series.
Adjusting the power is done by following methods.
- For the first operating mode, disabling blur and animation functions of the OLED display,
- For the second operating mode, (i) disabling blur and animation functions of the OLED display and (ii) decreasing a resolution of images displayable on the OLED display, and
- For the third operating mode, (i) disabling blur and animation functions of the OLED display, (ii) decreasing the resolution of images displayable on the OLED display, and (iii) commanding the OLED display to display only black and red colors.

This technology can be extended to work on various other levels. Depends on the device and its hardware specifications. Now it will be up to Google how it uses the technology. It is not necessary that company would use it in a device. There are so many patents that Google has but no device has been launched based on those patents.
