Facebook has launched a new standalone app ‘Messenger Kids’ aimed at kids. The app is designed for children aged between six and 12.
Parents can download and install the app on child’s phone or tablet and create a profile with the name. Kids don’t need a phone number for creating an account. Parents need to authenticate it to their own account before setting up the kids account.
Messenger Kids is designed for kids and helps them in connecting with family and close friends. Kids can only connect with parent-approved contacts. The app allows them to do text conversations or make video calls to any person or group. The app has kids friendly masks, frames, stickers and GIFs for interactive conversations.
Kids profile will not be available on Facebook search to protect their privacy. Facebook will also not use child’s information for ads. The app is designed to be compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA).
Facebook won’t monetize Messenger Kids app. The account will be in Messenger Kids app and will automatically migrate to original Messenger account when they turn 13.
The app is only available in the US for iOS platform. It will be soon available for Android and Amazon Kindle devices.
