OnePlus 5T vs OnePlus 5: Should you upgrade?

OnePlus 5T vs OnePlus 5

In less than the 5 months after launching OnePus 5, OnePlus has launched a new phone OnePlus 5T with improved performance and better camera. OnePlus 5T is replacing the OnePlus 5 for the same price. OnePlus 5T comes with few notable changes. But what exactly has changed? Let’s see and decide whether it is worth to upgrade from OnePlus 5 or not.

OnePlus 5 was a good phone and OnePlus 5T is better. The phone looks exactly like Oppo R11S. The phone now has a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel and front side has a fullView display with thin bezels. The new OnePlus 5T has 6.01-inch display while OnePlus 5 had 5.5-inch. But OnePlus 5T is almost of the same size. The resolution of the display is also not the same as now it has 2160 × 1080 pixels resolution offering 18:9 aspect ratio.

OnePlus 5T

OnePlus 5T looks more modern and follows the 18:9 aspect ratio trend that we saw in recent months.

The phone still comes with Snapdragon 835 and offers 6GB and 8 RAM options along with 64 or 128GB of storage. Even with the same hardware, the phone claims to be faster due to optimised Oxygen OS. As there is no successor of Snapdragon 835, OnePlus had no option to upgrade here.

You are still getting Android 7.1.1 OS running on the new phone, but the new Face Unlock feature is the notable software upgrade. It can be used to unlock your phone quickly and it works very fast.

OnePlus 5T comes with the same camera that we saw in OnePlus 5. The new phone comes with 16-megapixel and one 20-megapixel camera setup but the secondary sensor has been upgraded to offer wider f/1.7 aperture. It means the low-light performance of OnePlus 5T will be better than OnePlus 5. It has 16 megapixels front camera with f/2.0 aperture.

The rear camera can record up to 4K videos with EIS and front camera can record up to 1080p videos. Lack of OIS is a disappointment and you have to settle here.

The OnePlus 5T has same 3300 mAh battery with support to Dash Charing.

OnePlus 5T is completely replacing existing OnePlus 5 and comes for the same price. OnePlus 5T 64 GB is priced at Rs. 32999 and OnePlus 5T 128 GB is priced at Rs. 37999. It is exactly same.

Should you upgrade?

Now you already know the key differences. I don’t think there is any need to upgrade to OnePlus 5T from OnePlus 5 until you have enough money to burn. The key change is the display. OnePlus 5 is still a good phone and performance is almost same. So, it is worth to ignore OnePlus 5T if you are already using OnePlus 5.
