iPhone X vs iPhone 8 Plus: What are the differences?

iPhone X vs iPhone 8 Plus

Apple has just taken the wraps off three new smartphones. As expected, these phones are iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Apple has ditched the iPhone 7S to jump to iPhone 8 that is unusual and there was nothing on the phone to support this. Apple has also announced iPhone X (or iPhone 10) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone line.

If you are not sure what are the primary differences in iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus, this article is for you. Here, I am considering iPhone 8 Plus because it is the superior model of iPhone 8.

The biggest difference is in design. While both the phone comes with a glass panel on both front and rear, iPhone X looks amazing. It has a full frontal display on the front. At the back, the dual camera setup is vertical as opposed to horizontal setup in iPhone 8 Plus. The new iPhone X follows the same bezel-less display trend that we saw this year in many smartphones. For making this possible, iPhone X also ditched the Touch ID for making space for full frontal display. There is also a cut-out at the top that dips into the screen. It houses the front camera and other important sensors.

As there is no Touch ID in iPhone X, it brings Face ID for unlocking the phone and paying on Apple Pay. This is one of the major differences.

iPhone X

Both smartphones come with A11 Bionic chip and same graphics. So, performance should be similar. Here, Apple didn’t note the RAM configuration. If this differs, iPhone X will surely be better in performance as well.

The new iPhone X uses OLED display while iPhone 8/iPhone 8 Plus comes with IPS LCD display. OLED display offers much more vivid colors. The iPhone X even has Dolby Vision and HDR 10 capability.

The cameras on iPhone X are the same that was found in iPhone 8 Plus. Both models have dual camera setup, iPhone X has OIS on both camera sensors and iPhone 8 Plus just have in the regular sensor. the front camera of iPhone X can also achieve Portrait Mode shots as well.

iPhone X vs iPhone 8 summary

Most notable difference is the design. The iPhone X is totally revamped iPhone model. It also comes with new OLED display. The iPhone X also has a slightly better camera with dual OIS.

iPhone 8 Plus will start at $799 for 64GB and iPhone X starts at $999 for 64GB model.

I am not sure if iPhone 8 Plus is worth to go with. It does not have major improvements over iPhone 7 Plus. Just improvements in camera, chipset, and performance. Nothing new was added except wireless charging. But iPhone X is totally new in design and it got face unlocking.
