Qualcomm has announced two new platforms Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630. Snapdragon 660 succeeds Snapdragon 653 and Snapdragon 630 succeeds Snapdragon 626 to offer improved performances.

These new mobile platforms are designed to support a leap in performance enabling advanced photography and enhanced gaming. It also claims to offer better battery life and faster LTE speed.

Both Snapdragon 660 and 630 support up to 8GB of RAM and were built on 14nm process. The 660 has an eight-core Kryo 260 CPU and an Adreno 512 GPU, while the 630 has eight Cortex A53 cores and an Adreno 508 GPU. Both platforms include features like Bluetooth 5 support, All-Ways Aware hub, support for Google’s Awareness API, USB-C 3.1 support, X12 LTE Modem which peaks at 600Mbps, and Quick Charge 4.

The company has also brought few notable features of 800 tier to 600 tier platforms. These features include Qualcomm Spectra camera ISP, Qualcomm Kryo CPU, and Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX).

Snapdragon 660 and 630 Mobile Platforms focus on these major things

Camera

For improved photography experience, it comes with Qualcomm Spectra™ 160 premium camera ISP. It offers more natural skin tones, superior low-light photography, as well as better power efficiency. It also gives better performance with dual camera and supports features like optical zoom, bokeh effects, dual pixel autofocus, and video stabilization.

4K video capture and playback have also been integrated.

Audio/Visual Processing

The Qualcomm® Hexagon™ 680 DSP featuring vector extensions (HVX) on the Snapdragon 660 to offer high performance, power efficient processing of imaging, computer vision, and machine intelligence workloads.

Both platforms support Qualcomm All-Ways Aware™ technology with Google Awareness API.

Connectivity

Snapdragon 660 and 630 both features a Snapdragon X12 LTE Modem with the new SDR660 RF transceiver to get peak downlink data rates of 600Mbps. The snapdragon 660 supports 2×2 MU-MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi for twice as much data throughput and up to 60 percent lower download power consumption as the Snapdragon 652.

Improved CPU and GPU

The Snapdragon 660 features 20 percent improvement in the Qualcomm® Kryo™ 260 CPU and 30 percent improvement in the Qualcomm® Adreno™ 512 GPU performance. So you will get better gaming and multimedia experience.

The Snapdragon 630 comes with 30 percent increase in the Adreno 508 GPU performance and 10 percent increase in CPU performance.

Both platforms ensure better battery life.

Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 4

Both mobile platforms support latest innovations in Quick Charge technology. It ensures up to 50% charging in just 15 minutes of charging and offers up to 5 hours of talk time in 5 minutes of charging.

Machine Learning

Both platforms use Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine SDK to allow developers and OEMs create power immersive and engaging user experiences with machine learning.

These mobile platforms also offers pin and software compatibility. Now Snapdragon 660 is available to partners and should appear in devices during the second quarter. The Snapdragon 630 will come in devices during the third quarter.
