Oppo F3 Plus First Impressions : A good selfie phone but for high cost

Oppo F3 Plus

Today, Oppo launched its next flagship selfie phone Oppo F3 Plus today in India. This phone is priced at Rs. 30990. The notable feature of this phone is its dual front camera setup. I spent few hours with the phone and here are my first impressions.

Oppo F3 Plus First Impressions

The design of the phone is same as its previous phones. The design is looks inspired by Apple’s iPhone. Vivo and Meizu phones also look exactly same. So, there is nothing interesting in the design of the phone. The phone is heavy due to the large display panel and bigger battery. The weight is 185 grams.

It has large display panel. Above the display, it has dual camera setup. Below the display, it has physical home button equipped with the fingerprint sensor. There are two capacitive keys on either side of the home button.

It has volume rocker on the left edge. The right edge has power button and SIM card slot. The below side has speaker, micro USB, primary mic and 3.5 mm audio jack. The back panel has camera and LED flash at top left corner. You also see three thin lines if antenna bands at top and bottom side of the back panel.

As the phone is large in size, you may feel bit uncomfortable while using it. It has 6-inch Full HD display that looks good and bright. The company tried to reduce the size of phone by offering thin bezels. It shows warm colors and offers nice viewing experience. The display has 2.5D curved glass panel with Gorilla Glass 5 to protect it from scratches.

The phone comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 chipset with octa-core processor and Adreno 510 GPU. The phone also has 4GB RAM. If you just look at this setup, it seems weaker considering the price. Phones with price less than Rs. 20,000 now offer Snapdragon 820 for better performance. But, Oppo did cost cutting here because selfie crazy people just look for good performance. They don’t use heavy graphics game or other complex apps.

The phone has 64GB internal storage. So, you have plenty of space to save videos and your selfies. You can also expand the storage up to256GB with microSD card. But, the phone has hybrid slot and you will end up with Single SIM phone if you expand the storage.

The phone runs on Color OS 3.0 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. This interface is clean with lots of software features.

The camera of the phone is the only notable thing that makes this phone worth to talk. It has 16 megapixels rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, 1/2.8″ Sony IMX398 sensor, Dual Focus PDAF, 6P lens, dual-tone LED Flash, OIS, 4K video recording. Not just on paper, this camera really perform great in actual usage.

At front, it has dual camera setup. It has 16 megapixels sensor with 76.4-degree wide-angle lens, 1/3.1-inch sensor and f/2.0 aperture. It also has 8 megapixels camera sensor with 120-degree wide-angle lens. This setup offers nice camera experience, Bokeh effect and better selfies. The only disappointment was the lack of front flash. If the company is boasting a lot about the selfies and talking only for selfies, I am still not sure why they missed this important thing.

These are few camera samples.

The phone offers 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac (dual-band), Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS connectivity. This phone comes with large 4000 mAh battery with support for its own fast charging tech VOOC. At this time, I cannot say anything about the battery performance. As the phone only targets selfie crazy people who have nothing to do with gaming or high performance, 4000 mAh seems sufficient for a day.

Final Words

This phone will be competing with Vivo V5 Plus that is also a selfie phone with dual camera at front. Vivo V5 Plus has selfie flash as an advantage over it and price of that phone is also lesser than the price of Oppo F3 Plus. Spending this much of amount just for good selfies looks strange. It is a matter or personal choice. I will prefer OnePlus 3T at this price. That not just offers good performance, it also offers decent camera experience.
