A few days back, Coolpad launched Coolpad Cool 1 smartphones in India. Due to new year holidays, we are late in writing our first experience of the phone. Coolpad Cool 1 is the cheapest smartphone with dual camera setup in the Indian market. The phone is priced at just Rs. 13999. This phone is awesome in terms of looks and good in specifications.

This phone belongs to Cool series that was launched with LeEco. This phone is built by Coolpad but runs on LeEco’s EUI. Here are our first impressions of the phone.

Design and display

Coolpad Cool 1 comes with the premium design that has extremely thin side bezels. The phone has metallic body crafted out of aerospace magnesium alloy. It has 5.5-inch full HD display, but company tried hard to keep the size less to make it easy to use. It has the volume rocker and power button at right while SIM card slot at left. The USB Type-C and two speaker grilles at the bottom of the phone. At top side, it has 3.5 mm audio port.

The back panel has dual camera setup with dual LED flash at the right of it. Just below the rear camera setup, it has the fingerprint sensor. You also see the Coolpad branding at the back panel with ‘LeEco inside’ line below the Coolpad branding.

The overall build of the phone is premium and solid.

The phone has 5.5-inch Full HD IPS in-cell display with 401ppi pixel density. This display also has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display is bright and offers vibrant colors. Not just indoor, the experience in outdoor is also decent.

Software

As I already said, the phone comes with LeEco inside. This phone runs onEUI 5.8 running Android 6.0.1 but you will not get the content ecosystems of LeEco. This UI offers good experience and nice features. You get many software features and options to customize it with themes.

Performance & Storage

Coolpad Cool 1 comes with 1.8 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor with 4GB RAM. We have already tested this chipset and had good experience in gaming and performance. While I didn’t get enough time to test the gaming, initial performance was awesome. I played few games for the short time but I was impressed with the way in handles graphics and performs. This phone will offer good multi-tasking capabilities and no heating issue while gaming. Considering the price, this phone has got good capabilities.

It comes with 32 GB internal storage, but there is no option to expand storage. You still have the option to use OTG storage.

Camera

The camera is the main attraction of Coolpad Cool 1. This phone offers 13 megapixels dual camera setup with dual 6P lenses, Phase Detection Auto Focus, and dual-tone LED flash. This camera can also record 4K video. From two camera sensors, first camera sensor captures monochrome information and other records RGB images to give you best possible experience. The camera also offers pro mode and beautification modes.

We tested the camera and found the good experience. It captures good details and sharpens with nice color reproduction in images it captures. The camera impressed me with its imaging abilities. With manual control over the camera, you can have a good camera experience.

The phone also offers 8 megapixels front camera. With facial beauty features, you can capture good selfies. The front camera also captures good details and you see nice color reproduction.

Fingerprint sensor

This phone also offers a fingerprint sensor located below the rear camera. It can unlock the phone quickly and can be used to capture photos. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate.

Connectivity and Battery

The phone comes with dual-SIM connectivity with support to 4G VoLTE. Other connectivity options are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type-C.

It is packed with 4000 mAh battery that claims to offer 450 hours of standby time. If I recall the battery back of previous Coolpad phones, I expect this phone to offer the same kind of experience. So not just a good camera, you are getting a large battery to power the phone for longer time.

Final Words

Coolpad Cool 1 is a decent phone at this price. It offers nice camera experience and has capabilities to revolutionize the camera of mid-range smartphones. Like its previous phones, Coolpad has again given a challenge to competitors with its new phone. At this price, this phone seems to be the best deal to go with. If you are looking for a phone, this phone is the best option below Rs. 15000.
