LG V20 is LG’s Powerful Challenger in High-End Segment

LG V20

A few days back LG launched its flagship phone LG V20 in the Indian market. Priced at Rs. 54990, this phone also comes with B&O Play earphones. This is the reason the phone makes the best deal if you are looking for high-end phones. If you are curious to know about this phone, keep reading this post.

LG V20 Impressions

Design

Lg V20 borrows the design of LG V10 but it still got some uniqueness. This phone comes with metal body with a Gunmetal gray finishing. Most notable thing I the design is its MIL 810G rating for protection against shocks and drops. The backplate is made of AL-6013 aluminum that is used for ABS brakes and aircraft for its high strength and anti-corrosive nature.

We also tested the phone by dropping it multiple times from different angles and the phone survived with no physical damage. So the phone is durable and if you have the habit of dropping your phone, this phone makes sense for you.

The phone has a button on the right edge to remove the backplate. Yes, the phone got the removable back panel and battery is removable as well. This phone has the rear camera on the back with laser autofocus sensor and dual LED flash at either side of the camera setup.

It has a large 5.7″ display along with a secondary display above the main display to show you quick notifications, time and quick settings option. This secondary display is the main reason for the extra height of the phone.

Below the rear camera, it has fingerprint sensor which also acts as power/sleep button. As the phone comes with B&O earphones, it also got the B&O branding on the back panel and it also featured default wallpaper dedicated to B&O.

The bottom edge houses the primary microphone, USB type-C port, loudspeaker and a 3.5 mm audio jack. It has IR blaster at the top. At the left edge, it has the volume rocker.

In terms of design and build, this phone impresses. It is solid, comfortable, no so heavy and beautiful.

Display

This phone got the large 5.7-inch display with 1440p resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels for a 513 PPI Pixel density) to give you the best video and photo experience the phone. It also has better contrasts than previous LG phones. It also offers Gorilla Glass 4 protection to make this display scratch resistant. This display offers nice viewing angles as well.

The second display is another notable thing on the phone that offers many features on the fingertips. It serves widget, time, apps and notifications. You can also control music. The best thing is that you have the option to turn it off if you do not like it. You can customize this as per your preferences.

This phone carries no physical navigation button. You got on-screen navigation that you can customize as well. You can rearrange these keys based on your preference. By default, you get 4 touch keys where the 4th one is for SIM toggle.

Software and performance

The phone was the first phone to come with Android 7.0 out of the box. While the phone does not run on stock Android, you get so many software features that make this phone worth to note.

This phone is powered by quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor which is still one of the best processes in the market. When the company launched, Snapdragon 820 was the best option available. This phone also got 4GB of RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU. With this setup, the company claims to offer the best performance.

It comes with large 64GB (UFS 2.0) internal memory that is further expandable memory up to 2TB with microSD. So, you have nothing to worry about in terms of storage.

This fingerprint sensor of the phone is also fast and accurate. It is located on the back panel which makes sense at the phone is large in size.

Camera

Camera setup of the phone is worth to talk about. It has dual rear camera setup. The first camera is of 16 megapixels with 29mm focal length, OIS, and f1.8 aperture. The secondary rear camera is of 8 Megapixels with f2.4 aperture and 12mm focal length.  With these two cameras, this phone claims to capture more details and one of the best photo quality you can get from the smartphone camera. On the front, this phone has 5 Megapixel sensors with f1.9 aperture. This camera also captures good photos.  While we have yet to check how the camera performs, I am optimistic to get best results.

In terms of video recording, this phone is good and the most notable are the noise canceling microphone. As compared to other phones in the market, this phone records the best audio and reduces most of the noise.

Multimedia experience

This phone also offers brilliant music experience with built-in 32bit DAC and B&O Play earphones. It got amazing audio quality with excellent dynamic range. This phone supports all the available music formats. So, you are not restricted to use only certain audio formats. The phone’s display is also excellent to give you awesome video experience. This phone also comes with professional-grade sound-recording app comes pre-loaded.

Connectivity and Battery

It comes with 4G LTE, dual-band WiFi 802.11 AC, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C connectivity options.  It covers all connectivity options you wish to have on your phone.

This phone has 3200 mAh removable battery that claims to offer a full day usage. As I was not able to check the phone for a long time, I have no claims regarding this.

Final Words

LG V20 is no doubt one of the best offerings in the smartphone segment. This phone targets music lovers, photographers, power users and those who drop their phone a lot. This phone impresses both in terms of hardware and software capabilities. With Excellent cameras, great music experience, nice performance, this phone is one of the best to buy.
