Coolpad Note 5 First Impressions – Powerful Specs At Low Price

Coolpad note 5

Last year, Coolpad surprised Indian consumers with Coolpad Note 3 that was the cheapest phone with 3GB RAM and fingerprint sensor. That phone was also performing as per claims and got a good response from consumers. Now, Coolpad has announced Coolpad Note 5. Do not ask me about Coolpad Note 4, because the company is also not sure about that phone. Coolpad Note 5 is the cheapest phone with 4GB RAM. It offers good specs for just Rs. 10,999.

Like other phones of same price segment, Coolpad Note 5 offers full metal unibody design. In terms of design, it looks same as Le 2 or Redmi Note 3. There is nothing special in design and almost all devices with metal body come with the same kind of form factor.

CoolpadNote 3 comes with the larger 5.5-inch display, but it is still easy to hold and handle. Above the display, it has LED flash and front camera. Below the display, it has three capacitive backlight keys. It has volume rocket at the right edge while power button along with SIM slot is at the left edge. At below edge, it has micro USB port and 3.5 mm jack is on the top side.

It has fingerprint sensor, rear camera dual LED flash at the back panel. Speaker is also on the back panel below Coolpad branding. This phone has chamfered edges with a golden ring to improve the look.

Coolpad Note 5 comes with 5.5-inch Full HD display with 2.5D curved glass display. It also has scratch resistant protection to avoid scratches. The display has sufficiently vivid and brightness is also good. The only issue could be its reflectiveness which can create trouble in outdoor conditions. Viewing angles are also decent.

Coolpad Note 5 comes with 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor. While this chipset is also powerful, this is disappointing. The company could use the latest chipset (Snapdragon 652 or 650 ) to make this phone even better. In short session, I couldn’t get the chance to check the full power of the phone. So, I cannot talk much about performance. With 4 GB RAM, I am expecting it to perform well.

It comes with 32 GB internal storage from which around 22 GB is user available. You also get an option to expand storage, but it has hybrid sim slots. You can either expand the storage of use two SIMs. It also supports USB OTG.

It runs on Android Marshmallow with Cool UI 8.1 on the top of it. Like other popular ROMs, it also has no app drawer. Quick settings can be accessed by swiping up from the bottom of the display. UI is good and offers nice user experience. The best feature of this UI is its dual apps option. It  allows you to use two accounts on different apps, along with multi-window support.

There also few pre-loaded apps including Amazon Shopping, UC Browser, Xploree Keyboard and WPS Office along with few Coolpad branded apps.

It has multi-purpose fingerprint sensor. It claims to unlock your phone in less than 0.5 seconds. You can also use it to receive calls, capture photos and open specific app with a specified finger.

This phone comes with 13 megapixels rear camera with dual LED flash and an 8 megapixels front camera with LED flash. Front LED flash helps in capturing good selfie in low light. This is an advantage over all other rival phones of the same price segment.

The camera app is also good and offers clean interface. You also get few camera effects along with camera modes.

It comes with 4G with VoLTE. So, you can use JIO sim with this phone. Other connectivity features are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro USB and GPS.

It is packed with large 4010 mAh battery which claims to offer around 14 hours of talk time and 350 hours of stand by time. This large battery will surely offer you a full day usage. There are few power saving options as well.

At this price, this phone directly competes with Redmi Note 3 (3GB), Le 2 and Lenovo Vibe K5 Note. 4GB RAM and front camera flash are two main advantages of this phone.
