Siri vs Cortana vs Google Now: Epic Showdown

Siri vs Cortona Google Now

Voice Activated Digital Assistant has been around for a few years now and has become a norm on our smartphones and desktops. Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana and Android’s Google Now are arguably the best there is at what they do. So which one of these three triumphs when they face off? Let’s have a look.

When Apple introduced Siri in 2011 it seemed it came right outta a sci-fi novel. Sure it was a little buggy in the beginning, but look at her now. She was constantly learning and pushing the boundaries of integrating with our daily life.

With iOS 9, Siri was completely integrated into the device’s OS and was no longer ‘just a cool app’. Instead of just understanding your words, it tries to make sense of the sentences.

Siri can handle almost everything you throw at her, from calling people in your contacts to scheduling meetings, Sending messages to answering your questions. It can even identify music, Update FB statuses, Set alarms, look up directions and ton more activities.

With iOS 10, Siri is gonna be more functional as it would support 3rd party applications.

A downside of Siri is the fact that it solely depends on voice input while Cortana and Google Now support text input too. But her wit and humor surely make up to you.

Cortana is available on Windows as well as Android Platform. The more you use her, the more she’ll learn and more personalized your experience will be.

The Windows Phone version of Cortana can make calls for you, set reminders, send messages, check the calendar, identify the music and so on.

Thanks to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Cortana has, even more, functionality. It can easily integrate your desktop and smartphone and can be accessed from the lock screen itself.

You could just type the question and Cortana would respond as it supports text input too. Cortana also integrates with many third party applications making a user experience convenient.

However, Cortana is not as consistent as we expect it to be and feels a tad bit lackluster. Microsoft does have big plans for it and hopefully, it steps up the game.

  • Google Now:

Google Now is more ambitious when compared to both Siri and Cortana. It learns about you, your habit and activities and starts predicting you. It gives you the information you need even before you know you need it. It does the basic stuff the other two assistants do but is a step ahead when it comes to personalisation.

You don’t even have to talk to Google Now as it doesn’t rely solely on voice input. It provides you information in the form of cards. However, if you want to talk to it, all you gotta do is say “OK Google” followed by your query.

Thanks to Google Now on Tap, Google Now is more integrated with the OS and provides you information based on what is on the screen.

Verdict:

It is difficult to pick the best of the three as each excels in its specific function. Cortana is little ahead as it is more dynamic and gets the job done, While Siri is more humorous, clever and consistent. Siri has a personality, unlike Google Now which is robotic.

In the end, it all comes down to personal preference. Cortana takes the cake for me even though it has tons of scope for improvement. Siri has a slight edge over Google Now, thanks to its witty yet capable functionality. Sure they may not be as functional as Jarvis or HAL 9000, but at the rate at which the virtual assistants are improving, it is safe to keep the expectations high.
