Xiaomi has created another buzz in Indian market with its entry-level phones Xiaomi Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime. Both phones will be available in India for Rs. 6999 and Rs. 8999 respectively. We only got the chance to check Redmi 3S Prime which is the better version of Redmi 3S. Redmi 3S Prime has 3GB RAM, 32 GB storage, and fingerprint sensor. All other specifications are same as in Redmi 3S.

Design

The design of Redmi 3S is similar to Redmi Note 3 but with the smaller size. It has metallic unibody design which offers the premium look. The only location of the camera is different and it is now located at the top left side of the page. At front panel, you see three capacitive touch buttons below the display and front camera above the display. From the front, it looks exactly same as Redmi Note 3. Even the

The volume rocker and power button are placed at the right edge. Sim card tray is on the left which carries hybrid sim slots. At top side, it has 3.5 mm audio port, the infrared sensor, and secondary microphone. At below side, it has the primary microphone and microUSB port.

At back panel, rear camera and LED flash are located at the top left corner. The fingerprint sensor is located as the same position as in Redmi Note 3. Speaker placing is at below side of the back.

Overall build is solid which looks good. At this print point, it is best Xiaomi could offer.

Display

Xiaomi Redmi 3S comes with 5-inch HD display. The display is good with decent color reproduction and nice viewing angles. For smaller display, putting full HD does not make enough sense and putting HD helps in saving battery juice.

The display is small with just 5-inch diagonally. If you are not comfortable with the large size of phones, you can go with this phone.

Processor, RAM, and Storage

Redmi 3S is powered by 1.4GHz octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor with Adreno 505 GPU and 3GB RAM. At this price point, this seems to be a powerful phone. Initial performance was also very awesome and smooth. While I couldn’t check the gaming, I am expecting it to perform better than other phones of this price range.

Xiaomi also claims that the phone temperature rises while gaming is less than even Moto G4 Plus. We couldn’t check this claim.

It comes with 32 GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128 GB. As it has hybrid slots, you can only use single SIM along with microSD card.

Software

Redmi 3S runs on MIUI 7 based on Android Marshmallow. UI offers a smooth experience. The interface is clean and user-friendly. It will also get MIUI 8 which is scheduled for August 23. MIUI 8 will be something you will like because of many new features added. I personally like the dual Space feature which allows you to have two copies of the same app and MI caller id helps you to identify numbers.

Camera

The camera is an important thing people look for. Even in a budget phone, people ask about the camera before anything else. Redmi 3S Prime and Redmi 3S both comes with 13 megapixels rear camera with dual LED flash and 5 megapixels front camera for the selfie. Both cameras are capable of capturing decent shots. While I couldn’t check camera in detail, I captured few shots attached below.

Connectivity and battery

It comes with 4G support with VoLTE. Best thing is that it supports all 4G bands even those which are still not in use. So the phone is already future ready. Other connectivity features are 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and micro USB. It includes proximity, ambient light, accelerometer, and gyroscope sensors.

It is packed with 4100 mAh battery which claims to offer around 2 days of usage. For a phone with 5-inch display, battery performance is not an issue. When the battery is 4100 mAh, I am sure you will get more than 2 days if you are the moderate user.

Final Words

As per my opinion, Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S prime both are good attempt of Xiaomi to revolutionize the entry-level segment. Not just powerful specs, but premium design make these phones much ahead of the competition. If you want a phone in this budget, you should not even think of comparing these phones with any other. Just go and buy.
