Entire US Voters’ Registration Records are on Sale on Dark Net

We just got the information of another big data leak. This time, a hacker is selling US voters’ registration records on the dark net. The worst thing is that U.S. Election Assistance Commission has no clue about it.

Hacker with online handle “DataDirect” is claiming to have full access to voter registration records of the citizens of the United State. He is selling the records state by state and asking 0.5 BTC (340.38 US Dollar) for each state.

hacker selling us voter registration records dark net

We are not surprised because in December 2015 security researcher Chris Vickery found 191 million US voter registration records online in an unprotected folder. He also claimed that authorities are not interested in taking the database off from the public. How careless they were.

Now, it is the matter of investigation if the hacker downloaded the same data and selling or he got data from some government servers. Here are two more screenshots posted by the seller to show sample data.

The first screenshot shows personal and voting details of a native from the State of California.

Hacker claims to have access to the data of all 50 states. This can be a serious threat. By looking at screenshots, it seems that data is legit and if it is, it can be a threat to United States. Scammers can use it against the country and its citizens.
