Twitter to show 360 degree videos

Twitter

Virtual reality and 360-degree videos are trending in the social media domain and numerous platforms like Facebook and YouTube have added support for the latter.

According to a report by The Verge, Twitter is soon to follow in the footsteps of its competitors and is initiating the feature  by virtue of a partnership with NBA, and Samsung.

The reported further elaborated that the users will now be able to access the videos shot by a 360-degree camera via the Twitter cards and can click and drag across the scene. All the videos are filmed by using the 360-degree cameras and will be uploaded on the official Twitter page of NBA.

While there were not many details about the videos in the report, Twitter has promised that there will be some exclusive content for the viewers to enjoy. Introducing the support for 360-degree videos is definitely a good move by the mico-blogging website as this technology is definitely gaining a lot of popularity and interest. However in the VR and full 360-degree video game, Facebook is still ahead of the race as it has been able to establish a perfect combination of live streaming, VR, and 360-degree video.

However, there is a fact that bugs us. It is unfortunate that you won’t be able to view 360-degree videos directly on the website. Users will have to leave the Twitter app to view the content. Though this new deal does bring impetus to the fact that we are all set to view more 360-degree video content on the website in the future.

As for the VR, we will still have to wait for the website to introduce any significant features.

What are your thoughts on the addition? Are you excited to watch exclusive clips from NBA in 360 degrees? We would like to hear from you in the comments section below!
