Lenovo Phab 2 and Phab 2 Plus “augmented reality” devices revealed

Lenovo unveiled the Lenovo Phab2 series with three devices, the Phab2, the Phab2 Plus and the Phab 2 Pro. In this segment, we will be covering the specifications for the Phab 2 and Phab2 Plus devices. Both Lenovo PHAB 2 and PHAB 2 come in Champagne Gold and Gunmetal Grey colors. Lenovo has priced both devices very aggressively. Pricing of these phones start at $199 and $299 respectively. These smartphones will be available globally from September 2016.

Both the Phab 2 and the Phab 2 Plus support a full metal body. The Phab 2 measures, 175 x 89.5 x 5.5mm and weighs 225g, whereas the Phab2 Plus measures 173.89 x 88.3 x 5.5mm and weighs 218g. The Phab 2 supports 6.4 inches wide display with HD resolution and 227 ppi pixel density. The panel is an IPS LCD screen. As for the Phab 2 Plus, it supports a 6.4-inch Quad-HD IPS display with 454 ppi pixel density.

The Phab 2 is powered by a MediaTek Quadcore MTK 8735 chipset along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The internal memory is expandable via external microSD card. Phab 2 Plus runs on the MediaTek Octa-core MTK 8783 processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The internal memory on the device is also expandable via external microSD card. Both devices run on Android version 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

The Phab 2 comes with a 13MP rear facing sensor at the back and a 5MP sensor up front, whereas the Phab2 Plus comes with a 13MP sensor at the back and an 8MP sensor upfront.

Both devices are supported by a 4050 mAh battery. Whether they support fast charging or not is not yet clear.

For world class audio experience, these devices come with Dolby Atmos with 5.1 Dolby Audio Capture, Triple Array Microphone with Active Noise-Cancellation.

The Phab 2 series of devices is the first to implement the concept behind Google’s Project Tango and is trying to make a device that is similar to Microsoft’s Hololens, but doubles up as a smartphone. We will definitely like to use the device and then will form the real opinion on what we think about it.
