LeEco Le 2 Camera Review

Le 2 Camera Review

LeEco Le 2 is the latest smartphone from LeEco and it costs only Rs. 11999. This phone comes with 16-megapixels rear camera and 8 megapixels front camera. Of course, these are the good camera specifications in this price segment but good camera hardware is not enough to become a good camera phone. The camera’s performance should be the good in different conditions. So, read this article to know how the Le 2’s camera performs in the real-world.

The Le 2 comes with a 16 megapixels rear camera with dual LED flash, F2.0 aperture, PDAF, HDR and more. It can record up to 4K videos and even slow motion videos.

Not just the rear camera, the front camera is also good with 8 megapixels sensor, F2.2 Aperture, and 76.5° super wide angle lens.

The default camera app in the Le 2 offers good features with a clean UI. Swiping from left to right or right to left changes the camera mode from Photo to Video, Slo-mo, and Pano. You can select as per your need. To open other camera modes like HDR, Night, Square, Beauty, and scene, swipe from the horizontal line just above the “Photo” label.

One notable change is in Settings- when you tap on the Gear icon, it will also open the available modes. In Le 2, I almost missed these modes because I couldn’t figure out how to open these modes.

Camera effects/filters are also there, but only for rear camera. You cannot use these camera effects with the front camera.

While a manual mode is not available, you can select from available pre-defined options. It is there for White Balance and ISO.

For the front camera, only “Beauty” mode is available. In this, you see a slider to set the beauty level. If you do not want to use it, set this beauty mode to 0. Another good thing is that you can select whether the camera should flip your selfies or not. This option is available in the Settings menu.

Voice Control is another good option. If this option is enabled, you can capture photos just by saying “photo” or “cheese”. If you are using the front camera, you can just say “Clear” to disable the beauty mode.

Day light Shots

The rear camera captures decent images a with good detail. Images look sharp and color reproduction is good. Overall image quality is good. In good lightning conditions, you see very good camera performance.

Macro shooting is also possible but you cannot go very close to the object. See below for a few awesome shots captured with this phone.

Indoor and Low-light shots

In low-light conditions too, this camera performs well. We cannot expect better than this from a phone in this price segment. Images captured in night had digital noise but it managed to capture good colors and decent amount of sharpness.

See below for camera samples in artificial lights and low light. This section is also good.

Front camera shots

The Le 2 has an 8 megapixels front camera, so expectations are also high. This phone does not disappoint and offers a good experience. I captured a few selfies in different conditions and found good photos. Beauty mode also helps in getting good selfies.

Video recording capabilities

The rear camera of the phone can record up to 4K resolution videos @30fps. It also supports slow motion recording. The Front camera can also record up to Full HD resolution videos. Both cameras do a decent job in terms of video quality. Good thing is that audio it records also avoids noise to give you good audio in videos.

The only issue was in focusing which seems to have an issue and I hope it will be fixed in the next software update.

Final verdict

Camera performance of this phone is excellent. Considering the price, this phone is offering good camera experience. In this price range, only Motorola Moto G4 Plus is slightly better. But the Le 2 also does not disappoint in terms of camera. Even if Moto G4 Plus is slightly better, it has heating issue and UI related lags. So, considering that phone is not a good idea. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has similar camera but Le 2 has 8-megapixels front camera as an advantage. So, this is one of the best camera phone in this price segment.

If you are looking to buy a phone that offers a good camera experience, the Le 2 is the best option available.
