Google has just created a trouble for lyrics website owners. It has partnered with LyricFind to source and show songs lyrics in search results. This is already available from today in US and will be available globally once it has licenses for other countries.
LyricFind confirmed that lyrics from more than 4,000 publishers will be added to Google Search and Google Play Music. With this, Google has become the best place to search for lyrics now.
Searching for songs lyrics is easy. All you need to search for song name followed by ‘lyrics’ on Google. Not just song lyrics, Google engine will also display a list of alternative results of songs with the same name by other artists.
Terms of the deal were not made public but LyricFind CEO Darryl Ballantyne confirmed that deal is big and it will bring songwriters and publishers “millions” of dollars in new revenue. Google will pay it based on the number of times a lyric is viewed on Google. So, the more popular a song is the better money publisher will get.
If you do not know, LyricFind is a Toronto-based company which has licenses from “all the major” publishers, including Universal Music Publishing Group, Sony/ATV, Warner/Chappell Music Publishing and Kobalt.
There are many popular lyrics websites which come up in Google search when you search for lyrics. Now, these websites will surely get a big shock as their organic traffic will go down. AZLyrics.com dominates the organic search results but this deal will surely hurt the business of AZLyrics.com.
