BSNL to set up 250 Wi-Fi hotspots in Jharkhand

Union IT and Communication minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad has just announced at a press conference that BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) will be installing 250 new Wi-Fi hotspots in Jharkhand. Out of these hotspots, 60 will be in Ranchi and Jamshedpur and the installation will be completed by March 2017.

Along with this, the state-owned organization has also announced the addition of  185 2G mobile towers and 185 3G mobile towers.  For Jamshedpur and its adjoining industrial town of Adityapur and Ghatsila, 50 mobile towers for 2G and 3G will be added. The company is also planning to increase the number of towers along the  Ranchi-Jamshedpur National Highway.

For identifying the hotspots like  cafes, lounges, food court, malls IT parks, healthcare centers, inter-state bus depots, college and the university campus and factory premises, consultation and stakeholders will be used.

Mr. Prasad also mentioned that there are 650 towers that are already functioning in the state and 250 more will be added soon to the areas. He also said that the 2600 telephone exchanges, which are spread all through Jharkhand will be upgraded to match the modern networking parameters. 13 new Post Shopee corners will also be set up in the period of a year.

“Post Shoppe adds to the customer delight and we hope to bank on the growing number of visitors to the post offices (3,200 in strength) in Jharkhand,” the minister said about the improvisation drive at India Post.

In the announcement, the minister also mentioned the addition of 60 new postal ATMs and 2,600 micro postal ATMs in the coming business quarters.

“Jharkhand is a growing and transforming state and the Union government is eager to support and promote business activities that bring smiles on the faces of the people here,” said Prasad talking about the achievements of the two years of Modi government to the media.
