MediaTek launches Pump Express, its fastest battery charging technology

With devices become high powered and battery intensive, there is a rising need for charging the device quicker to maintain connectivity to the world. MediaTek today launched Pump Express 3.0, its fastest battery charging technology to date.

According to the claims by MediaTek, a leading name when it comes to SoC’s Pump Express 3.0 is capable of recharging a smartphone battery from 0 to 70 percent in just 20 minutes. This is almost half the time a fast charger takes in general at present and five times the standard charger. The technology also allows you to charge your device for a total of 5 minutes to get 4 hours of talk time.

“The engineering challenge in the smartphone world today is satisfying consumer demand for powerful, rich multimedia features without needing to plug in their phones all day long,” said Jeffrey Ju, Executive Vice President, and co-Chief Operating Officer. “Our technology lets consumers power up quickly to stay connected, on the go and using their favorite applications whether for work or play instead of tethered to an outlet.”

Pump Express 3.0 is also the first technology in the market which is able to take direct charge from the USB Type-C power delivery. This means that there is no need for addition circuitry in the phone leading to less production of heat.

The technology is very safe and has more than 20 plus security features to keep the bi-directional communication safe.

At present, the old technology, Pump Express 2.0 is used by devices from several key brands, including Sony, Lenovo, Gionee, and Meizu. With direct charging technology, MediaTek has managed to cut the total power dissipation by almost 50 percent. Not only does this improve the overall thermals, but also affect the charging efficiency.

Pump Express 3.0 will be available in the MediaTek Helio series P20 with devices expected to be in the market by the end of 2016.
