For those of you who are not aware of the Faraday Future, it is a U.S. based startup that gets its funding from China and is in an aggressive developmental process of an electric car to go up again its rivals, Elon Musk’s Tesla. Former Tesla Execute, Dag Reckhorn, who is now the VP of Global Manufacturing for the company, has pulled the curtains off certain facts pertaining to the development of these cars in his interview with The Verge

Amongst the various things that were revealed, he said that the company is looking to manufacture a variety of cars that have similar single chassis but varying batteries, powertrains, and battery types. Other things that Mr. Reckhorn said in the interview included the fact that the company is trying to increase the battery capacity of the car to 20-30 percent more juice as compared to the competitors in the market. There is also a chance that the car may feature a seating capacity of more than one seat.

A few weeks ago, Ding Lei, head of the LeAuto division of LeEco was the headline speaker at LeSEE’s press conference at Auto China in Beijing. The company has created the LeSee concept car. After the event, he went to speak at the press conference that was arranged by Faraday Future.

When asked about the relationship between the companies, he said, “They are our partners, we cooperate on engineering, marketing, and Internet connectivity.”

However, according to what we have seen, these companies are more than just being partners as they share the same platform for creating the electric vehicles in two different segments. Later, when a company executive was questioned regarding this, he said, “actually, we are the same company.”

He also went about saying that both the companies will be sharing similar variable-platform architecture which was developed by Faraday Future, but the companies will be targeting two different market segments with one focusing the luxury segment and the other the mass segment.

Jia Yueting, the Chinese Internet Billionaire who is behind the funding of both these companies seems to have bitten a lot with the ambitious plans of creating his dominion over the electric vehicle market. Both the companies are yet to come up with any dates for the release of the vehicles.
